Loyal as a Dog

25 May

Today is my oldest dopeppag, Peppa’s 8th birthday.  Green and I adopted her together – she was sort of our ‘practice baby’ the one we spoiled, doted on and cared for before Ditto was born two years later.  She’s a miniature Dachshund but make no mistake she is no toy.  She is brave and her loud bark is bigger than her body.  Peppa has been my constant friend – listened to me rage, cry and laugh at myself when I thought my world was coming to an end.  A dog who was truly most faithful, devoted and loving when my own husband was not.  Thank you Peppa for the constant cuddling and wet nosed kisses!  I was never really alone with you snuggling under the covers with me.  Mami loves you!

Happy birthday furry friend! Thank God for them. My dog is a constant source of joy. She’s a Newfoundland so she’s a big girl. She can leap over the sofa in one bound and there’s fur balls in every corner. I wouldn’t give her up for anything.

I am a doggy mommy myself: Wolfie. He’s a male Maltese and looks roughly like a white mop with no handle. I was not a “small dog” lover myself, but my ex was, and he spent $800 on Wolfie and then left us both. BUT throughout all the years of discovering my ex’s affairs, divorcing, being alone, and meeting my new Dear Hubby…Wolfie was there. When I came through the door, he jumped and barked and wagged his tail so hard his body wiggled. He was THRILLED to see me and let me know it! Today, Wolfie is 13 years old and he mostly spends his days sleeping at my feet, but I’m happy to share his golden years with him because he got me through so may difficult days.

    Good post! Thank you!!

Have five dogs, but three are working dogs, and just our 13 year old choccy lab is the inside dog, and she is a real old dame now, moults everywhere, and sleeps on the couch, but has the softest face and ears, and is always a comfort, you couldn’t find a kinder friend – four litters later, Willow is a little saggy and baggy, like myself, lol! My eldest daughter had a mini wire-haired dachshund, until about five years ago, Otis, he left us too early, but they are such great comics! Loved him to bits, especially his “run-up” to leap onto our couch (I know, I am soft, the dogs stink up the furniture!) Always wanted a new dachshund, but our now becoming aged huntaway (working sheep and cattle dog) contributed to Otis’ death, so I am waiting until he goes before getting a new sausie – I am not a small dog girl, either, but he was a great companion, and don’t they just make you smile to look at them!
